GMC is a venerable instititution that inspires fierce loyalty amongst it's alumni. However, in recent times, it appears
to have missed it's tryst with greatness.
Some diseases that afflict the institution:
1. Corruption
2. Control by the state government : would GMC be better off as an autonomous institute?
3. An examination system that devalues ward attendance and true medical learning - which occurs at the bedside of the
patient.
4. Mismanagement of funds
5. Lack of mechanisms for self-critical appraisal and continuous improvement.
6. To become truly great, any medical institution needs a focus on research.
